CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
- Background of the Study
The value of communication cannot be over emphasized since man cannot do without communication.
According to Davis (1999), communication is a process of passing information and understanding from one person to another. Newman and Summer (2000) see communication as an exchange of ideas, facts, opinions or emotions of two or more persons. It involves a systematic and continuous process of telling, listening and understanding.
Communication is derived from a Latin word “communication” meaning “to share” is the act of conveying intended meanings from one entity or group to another through the use of mutually understand signs and semiotic or exchanging of information by speaking, writing or using some other medium. Communication can also be defined as a means of sending or receiving information such as telephone lines or computers. Through communication one can share his thoughts, views, and ideas. Knowledge that is not share or spent is not knowledge since nobody will benefit from it. In a nut shell man cannot communicate.
