ABSTRACT
The aim of this study was to investigate the Evaluation of Pension Fund Administration in Nigeria: A case study of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar (UCTH). The problem emphasized on the basis retirement and gratuities which were not paid to retired workers as and when due, which resulted in accumulation of huge retirement benefits which were owed to retirees. Again, government parastatals and institutions have not succeeded in setting aside the recommended amount of pension scheme from lack of funds. Some researchers claim that these consequently brought about a lot of untold hardships, death and sufferings to pensioners. The other objectives of the study includes; to ascertain the reasons for delays in the payment of pensions and gratuities of retired workers in Unical Teaching Hospital. To highlight the benefits of contributory pension scheme to pension fund administration in Unical Teaching Hospital, Calabar. The data collection instrument used was a structured questionnaire drawn on a 4-point scale. The hypotheses were in null forms to aid in the study. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendations were made; the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) must from time to time monitor books of accounts on all transactions relating to the pension fund, the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) creates awareness to employees in accordance with the provision of Pension Reform Act, 2004 relating to effective prompt payment of gratuities, the anti-corruption agencies such as the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) must strengthened through enabling laws and polices so that they can succeed in their task, the federal government should embark on training programme for the management staff of Pension Fund Administration for efficiency and effectiveness.

1.0 INTRODUCTION
The research work evaluates Pension Fund Administration in Nigeria. A case study of University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Calabar. Key problems facing Pension Scheme in Nigeria was identified with an overview of the scheme. Primary data were generated from direct observation and interviews granted. Secondary data on the other hand were obtained from official publications, national dailies, documentation and internet materials.
