Abstract
The present paper deals with the organization of research and development (R & D) in Japan. A survey of Japanese main R & D projects guided by MITI and NEDO is given. The shift from mainly applied research to more fundamental and original research as a future approach of Japan to further increase its contribution to scientific world knowledge is discussed.
