ABSTRACT
This research study is focused on web based health information management system using University of Uyo Teaching Hospital as a case study. This study is aimed at designing and developing a web based health information management system for University of Uyo Teaching Hospital. The objectives are to design a system that will record information on health events and check the quality of services at different levels of health care in the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, to develop a system that will enhance medical outcomes, quality of life, quality of care, and simultaneously reduce operations, morbidity, medical errors and cost and o improve patient care by improving patient administration procedures resulting in shorter waiting timed and better service to patients. The significant of the study are to organized and coordinated treatment process, improved patient safety and the implementation of the proposed system can help address any kind of stressed situations for patients. The research methodology used is systematic methodology and the programming language used for the development of the system is Visual Basic.NET, and MS Access as database.

INTRODUCTION
- Introduction
This chapter introduces the web based health information system. It discusses the problem statement, aim and objectives, significance of the study, scope of the study, organization of the study as well as definition of terms.
Medical practices today are faced with greater business problems than ever before. Reimbursements are reducing for medical practices and stringent government regulations are forcing health care professionals to spend a lot of time on reporting. At the same time, managed care is adding another dimension of complexity to the health-care professional using capitation to limit reimbursements. In addition, the threat of malpractice lawsuits are forcing physicians to keep minute details of their interactions with patients (Sonia, 2011). Because of these factors, direct costs of providing quality care to patients is increasing considerably, and hence health care providers are increasingly seeking efficiency in practicing medicine.
