CONSTRUCTION OF AN AC TRANSFORMER 220 V – 110 V

ABSTRACT

          Transformer is one of the most important and powerful device in the field of electrical and electronics technology.The information in this write up comprises of the construction, operations and various uses of transformer.  The device was constructed based on the principles of electromagnetic induction  which was clearly stated by Faraday Lenz laws of electromagnetic induction.  The transformer was constructed to step-down 220 voltages to 110 voltages with an output power ratings of about 1526 watts (1.52 KVA), it has an output current of 14 Amperes and an efficiency of about 94% which means that only 6% was loss (Transformer losses), so therefore, the device is highly efficient and reliable.

           The materials used to construct the device was sourced out locally, the laminated iron core and the former which are the most important material were sourced from scraped transformer and recycled.  The device constructed locally can compete favourably well with the imported ones.
