EFFECTIVE TEACHING OF HEALTH EDUCATION IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS  (A CASE STUDY OF SELECTED SCHOOLS IN BWARI AREA COUNCIL, FCT-ABUJA)

ABSTRACT

The main aim of the research work is to investigate on the problems of teaching physical health education in primary schools, the study tries to examine the effective teaching of health education and factors that inhibits the teaching of physical and health education in primary schools, to find out if primary school Physical and Health Education teachers are exposed to new technologies, and also to know whether or not Physical and Health Education teachers are aware of the new technologies and whether these new technologies are also available for teaching PHE in primary schools; the study made use of primary data which was obtained from the distribution of the research question, a total of 100 population with a sample size of 40 was considered for the study. The study made use of chi- square method to test the hypothesis, the study concluded that there are problems that inhibit the teaching of Physical and Health Education in primary schools, good recommendations were made to assist the federal government, the NUT and other researchers that want to made for findings concerning the above topic.

1.1   Background of the Study

Physical and Health Education is a systematic instruction in sports, training, practice, gymnastics, exercises, and hygiene given as part of a school or college program. Physical and Health Education is the study, practice, and appreciation of the art and science of human movement (Hardman, 2002b). Physical and Health Education is course in the curricula that utilizes the learning in the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor domains in a play or movement exploration setting (Kirui, 2007).
