ABSTRACT
This study on “Impact of Agricultural Development Programme on the Economy of Imo State, Nigeria, 1999-2015” examines the viable and sustainable impact of agricultural development in Imo State. Over the years, evidence have shown that, the agricultural sector of the economy has been neglected since the discovery of crude oil deposit in Nigeria. In Imo State, aside from her small earnings from crude oil, agriculture has remained the mainstay of its economy. The importance and role of agriculture in both local and international sectors cannot be overemphasised. In the same view, there is a call for acknowledgment on the impact of agricultural development worldwide. Hence, this study becomes imperative in bringing to limelight the effort of government which is geared towards the development of agriculture in Imo State and its impact on the economy of the state. Using both primary and secondary source, this research goes a long way in highlighting roles that the establishment of several agricultural development programmes like in Imo State in the making of her economy and the sustainable growth recorded in the area under study upon the success of this research, there is a call to scholars, well-meaning individual of the society as well as policy makers to accord relevance to agriculture as this research has proven that the advent of ADPs brought about sophistication eventually, the growth of the practice of agriculture and most imminently, the economy of the place involved in it, like the economy of Imo State.
