INTRODUCTION

BACK GROUND OF THE STUDY

Road transport is one of the oldest means of transportation. Before the advent of other means of transportation like airplanes, ships etc road transport has been in existence. This is because it has so many advantages when compared to other means of transport. Even before motorcars were introduced, people were making use of camels and donkeys to carry themselves and their goods from one place to the other. Road transportation saves cost, and can penetrate into the interior areas where other means of transport cannot go. Transportation feature very much in man’s daily activities as he works or does other activities in life. Civilization brought about changes in improvements in the existing means of transport. Various types of cars were introduced that enhances the movement of people and goods. Journey that used to take days to accomplish is now done in hours. However, road transportation is not without its constraints. These constraints are:-

Bad roads
Bad town planning
Poor drainage and refuse disposal system
Lack of education
Absence of reliable traffic pattern
Constant scarcity of fuel and gas
These are some of the problems been encountered in road transportation.
