ABSTRACT
The work is primarily concerned with the advent of Catholicism to Calabar from 1903-2000. This study seeks to unearth the contributions of the Catholic church to the Calabar people. It views that the church was involved in the socio political institutions and economic institution in Calabar. This work also focuses on how the Catholic church was able to gain prominence in Calabar despite the fact that they were late comers to the area. This study has established that the Efik rulers played a cardinal role in the invitation of the mission into the shores of Calabar, not only for the religious benefit but for the economic ascension of its people towards being a liberated race financially and otherwise
