Abstract
The Improving Surgical Care and Recovery (ISCR) Program is a collaboration of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), Johns Hopkins Medicine Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality, and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), to accelerate adoption of enhanced recovery practices. The project aims to achieve enhanced recovery adoption across the United States (US) by disseminating easy to use materials and providing implementation support to US hospitals that are seeking to implement enhanced recovery practices within the framework of the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program (CUSP), a well-known model for sustainable safety improvement. Now in its third year, ISCR has shown improved adoption of enhanced recovery practices, improved patient outcomes, and decreased healthcare utilization in patients undergoing colorectal surgery.
