ABSTRACT
This research work was undertaken to find out the effectiveness of AKBC radio in achieving sustainable development in Ini Local Government Area. The objective of the study were; to find how AKBC radio effectiveness help in achieving sustainable development in Ini Local Government Area, to find out the extent that AKBC radio bring about sustainable development and to ascertain if AKBC radio provide effective programme toward achieving sustainable development in Ini Local Government Area and research questions was formulated to guide the study. The survey method was used for the study, which employed the questionnaire instrument to 390 respondents from the total population using systematic sampling techniques. Frequency distribution tables and simple percentages were used in presenting and analyzing the data, findings shows that radio effectiveness in achieving sustainable development in Ini Local Government Area influence residents negatively because not all the residents have access to AKBC radio set. It was concluded that AKBC radio, like other forms of mass media, mobilizes, informs educates, entertains and act as channel. For dissemination of information so that society can have ideas about the do’s and don’t at a particular period. Among the recommendations made is that citizens should always listen to AKBC radio so that they can be updated on what is going on in the societies.
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
- Background of the Study
Radio is the technology of using radio waves to disseminate information, such as sound, by systematically modulating some properly of electromagnetic energy waves transmitted through space, such as their amplitude, frequency, phase, or pulse width. When radio wave strikes an electrical conductor, the oscillating fields induce an alternating current in the conductor. The information in the wave can be extracted and transformed back into its original form.
Radio systems needs a transmitter to modulate same properly of the energy produced to impress a signal on it, for using amplitude modulation or angle modulation which can be frequency modulation or phase modulation.
The term radio is derived from the latin word radios, meaning spoke of wheel, beam of light, lay. It was first applied to communication in 1881 when, at the suggestion of French scientists Gnest merchandiser, Alexandar Graham Bell adopted radiophone as an alternate name for his photo phone optical transmission system.
According to Heinrich Hertz’s establishment of the existence of terms were initially used for the phenomenon, with early description of the radiation ,itself including hertzian waves, electric waves, and either waves, while phrases describing its use in communication included spark telegraph, space telegraphy, arcograph and eventually and most commonly, wireless telegraphy.
