ABSTRACT
The study “Nigeria’s Foreign Policy Under General Yakubu Gowon 1966-1975” espouses the historical formulation of Nigeria’s foreign policy from the colonial period of amalgamation to independence. It gave a proper analysis on the various developments and changes of policies under General Yakubu Gowon. This study relied on secondary sources. It observes that it was Gowon who formalized Nigeria’s foreign policy of Africa the Centre-Piece. The projection of Nigeria’s interest during Gowon regime was faced with the challenge of the civil war. After the civil war, the Gowon policy became extravagant towards the liberation pursuits due to oil boom at the detriment of internal development of Nigeria.
