ABSTRACT
The study was to examine the public school environment and academic performance of students in senior school certificate examination. Three research questions were formulated for the study. Survey research design was used for the study. A 9 item of questionnaire were developed and administered to 100 respondents out of a population of 300. Data generated were analyzed using simple percentage. The findings revealed that students in boarding secondary schools performed significantly better than those in day secondary schools. It was therefore recommended that government should encourage boarding schools to ensure positive academic performance of students and also schools should be located in a conducive and serve environment to ensure positive academic performance of students.
