ABSTRACT
This study was undertaken to assess reducing unemployment rate in Nigeria through Agricultural development using Fadama III, Uyo Akwa Ibom State as a case study. In order to achieve the objectives of this research, the survey research design was adopted for the study, while convenience sampling technique was used to select fifty (50) respondents as sample size of the study. Instrument used for data collection was a self developed questionnaire and the forms were personally administered. Data analysis technique employed was the descriptive statistics which involved the use of simple percentages and frequency tables. From the findings of the study, it was revealed that unemployment rate in Nigeria could be reduced through agricultural development. The study recommended that government should properly fund Fadama III programme in order to improve on its performance, agricultural productivity, and public, private and international bodies should cooperate with them and government should also render technical and support services.

CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
1.1 Background of the Study
In the colonial Nigeria, agriculture occupies a centre stage in economic activities. At independence, in the decade of the 1960s, the sector continued to enjoy this status and was seen as the mainstay of the economy as the objective of the first development plan (1962-1968) showed, therefore, the contribution of the agricultural sector during this decade to Gross domestic product (GDP) range from 561%, 61.222%, 66.77% and 63.4% from 1960-1967 (Ayaoli, 1998:123). However, the contribution drastically declined in the 1970 because of the oil boom and negligence of the agricultural sector.
