ABSTRACT
This research work examined the effects of regulation and supervision in banking sector in Nigeria, using central bank of Nigeria, Uyo Akwa Ibom State as a case study. To accomplish the research objective, the study adopted the survey research design method while the convince sampling technique was used to select fifty (50) respondents as sample size for the study. Instrument for data collection was a self develop questionnaire and the forms were administered personally. The data collected were arranged in tables and analyzed using simple descriptive statistical method. Findings from the study revealed that the regulatory and the supervisory roles of central bank includes to issue legal tender, promote monetary and sound financial environment, to act as bankers performs its roles on banking system in Nigeria are: solving the problem of banks failure, formulating monetary and fiscal policies, safeguarding the economy and consumers protection. The activities of bank regulation and supervision of money in the banking sector. Providing payment and withdrawal facilities easy for customers, liquidity conditions o the banking system. Based o the finding, the following recommendations were made by the researcher, that the central bank of Nigeria should ensure good detection of fraud to enable them carryout effective regulation and supervision in banking sector in Nigeria

Finance is the life blood for trade, commerce and industry. Nowadays banking sector act as the backbone of modern banking business development of any country many depends upon the banking system. The term bank is derived from Old Italian word “bance” or from a French word that require it for different purposes and provide easy payment and withdrawal facility to its customers inform of cheques and drafts. The banking sector has been single out for the special protection because of the vital role banks play in the economy.
Banks supervisor do not deal with only the enforcement of roles and regulations, but also judgment concerning the soundness of the assets, It capital adequacy management and also maintain confidence in the banking system. Central bank presented ground for the adoption of monetary management, legal frame work and regulation to improve institutional facilities id for regular supervision and examination of the bank which is one of the mean of maintaining surveillance of banking system.
