ABSTRACT
For an industrial organization to achieve its objectives of profit maximization, it is require that its products be of high quality so as to satisfy its customers and be able to compete with any other products. Therefore, some control measures such as quality control methods are needed in the production process of the organization. This work therefore, considers the application of statistical quality control measures with a view to maximizing project arising from the production of high quality products. These are the quality of raw materials that would be accepted into production line of champion Breweries PLC, Uyo and the quality of finished products that would be sent to the customers. Also, to analyze the sample data with a view of finding solution to the problem of quality of finished products, some statistical techniques are employed. The research also examines the uniformity of finished product. Goodness of fittest was used to test for the consistency and reliability of raw materials. Also control chart for the measurement of other selected finished product (The more lager beer). The results obtained from the analysis show that the application of statistical quality control ensures the acceptable and consistent quality of raw materials into the production line. The result also shows that statistical quality control techniques are effective methods of ensuring uniformity of quality products in the production process; using p-chart, mean and range charts.
CHAPTER ONE
GENERAL INTRODUCTION
- Preliminary
Quality control (QC) being one of the prominent activities employed to ensure a certain level of quantity in a product or service has emerged as a prime engine and an important factor for any successful industry operating in today’s highly competitive business environment. However the industries in the developing countries that are problem oriented in terms of competitions in the market are also adopting the concept and techniques of quantity control in their various business strategies e.t.c. interestingly, business in Nigeria are beginning to realize its impotence and adopting the effectiveness in their products and services. Manufacturing industries for example are taking the lead in adopting and implementing the contemporary quality to optimum advantage. Quality control is a topic pioneered by manufacturing sectors.
Nowadays the field has developed tremendous and its techniques, tools, concepts and methodologies can be applied widely in both sides services and manufacturing sectors. There are wide available techniques to control product or process quality. Among them are statistical process control (SPC) tools, acceptance sampling, fail mode and effects analysis (FEMA): In view of the fact that most goods produced In early period of production was not communicated and competitive in market places, quality was greatly affected. In this period of industrial development where standard products are required, it becomes mandatory to ensure that the product meets quality satisfaction of the customers. Therefore, to produce a quality output, it is necessary to carryout inspection, measurement or testing of a production before and after the production process to ensure quality control techniques.
